Received before graduation, this award is given annually to one University of New Mexico student enrolled in the Creative Writing grad program, who shows promise as the next great New Mexican writer. Thank You to Dan Mueller from UNM and the beloved Anaya Family. RIP Mr. Rudolfo Anaya. What an honor.

This scholarship is offered exclusively to qualified students enrolled in the APEX program, designed for the mentorship of Latinx clientele. Housed within El Centro de la Raza student organization, much of APEX's mission is to uplift the Latinx student community. Thanks to Jorge Garcia and Yesenia Ruiz.

Also granted by the folks at Centro de la Raza, the Transformar Fellow Scholarship is for any fellow who qualifies by achieving high grades. They must also participate in social justice work as required by the project. I advocated for handicap signage on public bathroom stalls.

Compassionate Chronicle Grant

June 2019

This grant was graciously given to me from the awesome folks at Words For Charity.org. The online publishing company reproduces quality short stories to be read for a fee, proceeds donated to a charity of the authors choice. Annually, they honor a few pieces with the Compassionate Chronicle Grant. In 2019, my piece Use It or Lose It received that honor.

Summa Academia Scholarship

May 2019

This was my first scholarship received from El Centro de la Raza at UNM, after participating in their Summa Academia program. The program was designed to prepare grad students for professional life post grad school, with a concentration in academic work, like teaching. Thank you, Yesenia Ruiz and Lawrence Roybal.
